Fukumitsu Introduces 8G Fiber Channel SFP Transceiver Modules

Fukumitsu introduces the newest 8G fiber channel transceivers that are SFP compliant. This fiber channel transceiver solution supports high-speed serial links over multimode optical fiber at signaling rates up to 8.5GBd. These transceivers are compliant with Small Form Pluggable (SFP) Multi Source Agreement (MSA) mechanical and electrical specifications for LC Duplex transceiver, ANSI fiber channel for FC-PI-4 and FC-PI-2 for gigabit applications. The part is electrically interoperable with SFP conformance devices.
 
Fukumitsu provide multi-rate 850, 1310 DFB SFP which ensure compliance to 8.5/4.25/2.125/1.254 GBd Fiber Channel specifications without the need for Rate Select. These transceiver will ignore both rate select pin and control bit inputs (ie. No connect inside the SFP). This simplifies Fibre Channel hosts auto-negotiation algorithms, layout and software.
 
The 8G FC SFP has isolated signal and chassis SFP grounds to maximize flexibility in host system applications.

Using the 2-wire serial interface defined in the SFF-8472 MSA, these 8G fiber channel transceivers provide real-time temperature, supply voltage, laser bias current, laser average output power and received input power. They can be installed in a SFF-8074i compliant Small Form Pluggable (SFP) port regardless of host equipment operating status. The 8G FC SFP are hot-pluggable, allowing the module to be installed while the host system is operating and on-line. Upon insertion, the transceiver housing makes initial contact with the host board SFP cage, mitigating potential damage due to Electro-Static Discharge (ESD).
